Getting Started With Hextom Free Shipping Bar •
Welcome to the Free Shipping Bar!
Free Shipping Bar lets your customers know how much more they need to spend in order to obtain free shipping by displaying progressive messages when customers add more items to their cart. This will help increase average cart value and boost your sales in your store.
First things first — setting up free shipping in Shopify
Please note, the Free Shipping Bar app does not trigger or apply free shipping but is a tool to help you advertise it to your customers and show them how close they are to achieving free shipping. All shipping charges are handled by your shipping profiles and discounts, set in your Shopify Admin.
The quickest way to offer free shipping across your whole store is by setting up a Free Shipping Discount in Shopify. Learn how to do that here.
Need more control — like excluding certain products or setting region-specific rates? You'll want to use Shopify's Shipping Profiles instead. Here are the guides you'll need:
Creating your first free shipping bar
There are a lot of features that you may want to use... but to quickly setup a new bar, follow these steps:
1. Enable the App Extension (Recommended)
We recommend enabling the Free Shipping Bar app extension in your Shopify theme settings. It's not required to display the bar, but it helps it load faster and is essential for the app features to work. You can enable it by clicking this button in the app dashboard:

2. Click the Create New Bar button

3. Pick a template
Choose a design that fits your store's look — you'll see a live preview as soon as you select one.
(The templates on the right are premium templates and will only save if you are on the premium plan)

4. Configure your bar
There are many configuration options offered in the app. To get started quickly, you need to ensure that the following options are configured.
- Free Shipping Goal: Set the threshold customers need to hit to unlock free shipping. You can choose between two goal types:
- Spend-based — customers need to reach a set dollar amount (e.g. $100)

Item count-based — customers need to add a certain number of items to their cart (e.g. 3 items)
Pick whichever matches how your free shipping offer works!
- Initial Message: The first message your customers will see when their cart is empty.
- Progress Message: The message that will be displayed as your customers add more items to their cart.
- Goal Achieved Message: The message your customers will see once they reach the free shipping goal.

5. Save your bar
There are many other settings that you can configure, but for now, you can click save. Visit your store and you'll see the bar at the top of the page — just like that!


Making changes to your bar
Want to tweak something? No problem. Head back to the app dashboard and click the Edit button on the bar you'd like to update. Make your changes, save, and refresh your store — updates will appear right away.
